About Brick And Field
Brick And Field is an independent reference site about setting up outdoor patios and terraces at homes in Canada. The focus is narrow on purpose: layout and zoning, surface materials, and how an outdoor space is arranged through the seasons.
What this site covers
The written guides are organised around the decisions a homeowner actually makes, in roughly the order they make them. Planning the layout comes first, choosing a surface material second, and adapting the finished space across spring, summer, autumn, and winter third. Each guide is written for the freeze-thaw conditions common across much of the country.
How the guides are written
The content is informational and descriptive. Where exact figures depend on a product, a stone type, or a municipality, the guides point readers to the manufacturer's instructions or their local building department rather than stating a single number that may not apply. References are drawn from publicly available material published by recognised Canadian organisations.
